Goodbye Fiverr, hello Tailor Brands

G

One of the first things you’ll need to do when planning your new business venture is to get a logo designed. When Fiverr came out of a few years back, it was heralded as a real game changer in that business owners could connect with freelancers (many of them based off-shore) and get their logo designed for a mere $5. And I still hear the service come up a lot in discussions when I talk to people about their new business idea.

I remember chatting with a friend of mine, a professional graphic designer based in Melbourne, who has horrified by the idea of a $5 design service and said if it took off, he’d be out of business in no time, as he couldn’t afford to work for those kind of rates. Well, lucky for him, you don’t actually get much on Fiverr for $5, you might get a low-resolution sample but you’ll pay more for revisions and finished, print-ready files. It’s all about the add-on services, from business cards to social media graphics. In fact, I’ve heard more horror stories than positive outcomes from people who’ve used the service, especially at the lower price range. It comes back to the age old saying that you get what you pay for.

To my professional graphic design and branding expert friends reading this, I’m going to apologise in advance, because if you think this is a tale about the perils of using low-cost services, you might be disappointed. As you know, I am a huge advocate of machine learning and I recently started playing with a few artificial intelligence design tools, with fairly average results. I then found Tailor Brands.

Wow! This platform is smart, quick, on-trend and completely automated. Watch the video below to see how my friend and I designed a logo for his new social enterprise selling candles for a good cause, Karma Flame, in less than 5 minutes.

Tailor Brands takes all the best features I’ve seen in AI design platforms and rolls them into one. It does much more than simple logo design as well. It’s a subscription based service, so if you wanted just a logo you could sign up for one month, download your print-ready and digital logo files, even business cards, flyers, and headers for your Facebook profile, and do whatever you want with them. The artwork is yours to keep forever.

So why would you pay for an ongoing subscription? Tailor Brands is smart, it keeps improving month after month and the developers are always adding new features and design options. It can create brand new social media graphics for you every month – have you ever wanted one of those super stylish Instagram accounts with inspirational quotes between your product images, where everything is perfectly matched? You can log in and, much like Canva, edit your designs, change things around and add your own wording – the more you do that, the smarter it gets, producing more relevant branded content for you over time.

Real-time mockups let you see what you designs will look like on business cards, mugs, t-shirts and more, and integrations with services like Zazzle will let you order real-life merchandise on the spot!

I’m loving Tailor Brands right now and recommending it to all my friends. For those in the design industry, don’t feel threatened, embrace machine learning and use it as a tool to get more of an idea about what you client is looking for before you start the process of building a style guide for their brand.

The future is now, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

    • Great idea! Tailor Brands also launched Tailor Social last week, so you can now get the machine to generate (and schedule) beautiful social media tiles and content for you every week. Technology is amazing.

  • It seems like a really simple to use platform saving both time and money! Win/win. Definitely gonna check it out!

  • Wow!

This is pretty cool. I think this is a great option for people starting out especially those who just need something to get the business moving.

I’ll be adding this to my toolkit for handy tools to recommend for clients.

I love great design but sometimes business owners aren’t ready for it just yet.
